Strategy / Re: Future Strategies
« on: January 13, 2014, 02:58:53 pm »
Here are some of my initial thoughts

- I like the idea of going for more than 1 prize in one region at the same time. The problem I foresee is a dilution of our forces due to members' available swords. Not everyone would have the same amount of CP/swords to spare and we may end up spreading ourselves too thin. One way to workaround this may be to assign teams but Im not sure as current membership stands we have enough for that to be effective. (Plus, peeps just dont bother. They fight where they like when they like and can't say to them: 'No, eff off to your region!') Still, something well worth considering.

- I would prefer to have 1 region with 3 camps. The added bonus from each of the three camps would boost and bolster the others and the region as a whole. (Like it did in the North for the same reasons you asked for another camp to be built.) Also, having one camp per region has not been too successful for TBWB as we see they lost their placing in the top 10 as others upgraded.
Those are both good points. I just don't see ourselves getting hyper-organised like that. And I'm not sure I'd like to, either :p Specialised roles could still work to an extent - say, should we decide to keep the number of war participants at a minimum, those of us sitting out could craft for ACs so that the rest can focus on AvA; or reincarnators focusing on a specific type of attack ; or them crafting basic units/materials while non-reincing members would craft them into the more complex stuff straight away; that sort of stuff. I don't think anything too strict would work.

i've talked with a few alliances and seen many with camps in every region. Not necessarily high level camps, but VP earning camps none the less
Yes, for overall VP that'd work. Not sure if they'd provide significant enough boost in overall rankings to be worth the additional confusion with camp upgrades, though.

Yaaay someone other than me posting about strategy *wishes she had a way to send both bacon and ale to hubby* (we shall have to discuss your dealings with our enemies women and blood, though!)

Right, I was planning to start reincarnating as well, and I will definitely do so on my next gold day. However, I have no set schedule in mind, so if some serious planning is going to take place, I might be able to optimise for that. Otherwise, I can just help out with camp building and emergency action, or stay out of AvA altogether (should we decide to go for one of the 'per capita' prizes). I'm pretty sure I won't be contributing much towards 'most actions of any kind taken'-type prizes 'cause I just loathe the process of sending out SS.

My last thoughts on future strategy were that the only prizes I'd be happy to go for are the ones that don't require huge amounts of mindless clicking. There are currently two such prizes: the regional prizes in The North (most successful defenses) and the Stormlands (most silver gained from defending camps). Notice that the Stormlands one doesn't say anything about successful. Also, it seems DB are planning to boost camp defenses a bit. So for this we'd have to make sure our camps are the highest level in the region (and that we're reasonably good at defending). For which we'd have to stockpile, which we probably should have started already (and I was going to, except I both lost the plot as to what we upgrade when and got fed up with the game in general). So while this was an attractive option to me before, now I probably wouldn't be much help with either stockpiling or defenses. Still, it's an idea. Somewhat depends on the length of the break as well.

Now onto Kith's ideas: I like the idea of setting up in different regions. Mind you, it'd lessen our chances to be in the top x for any one region, but seeing that our chances for an actual prize are minimal anyway, I'm not too worried about that. I'm not sure about using highly specialised SS in garrison, though. The method DB uses to select defenders is not clear, and I'd be worried that our uber-harass defender might be quickly finished off by 3 spies and leave it to the uber-spy one to defend all the harasses :s Still, it's worth trying I guess. But then, with Swindle doing the amount of damage it does, a Charlatan would be needed as well.

As for camp upgrades etc, I really think we should make a habit of using Megga's awesome spreadsheet, and only dump stuff to camps when necessary. And, make a habit of using the MB in general.

I think that in any case it'd be a good idea to make sure the boards can be viewed by registered members only. Or maybe leave a few categories open to Guests (like, Off-topic). Can one of the Admins do that (if you haven't already)?

So what's the deal with the new camp in the Crownalds? I reckon it was more Freya wanting to dump stuff than anything, but where do we go with it now? (Just read MotD. D'oh.)

BTW I wonder if it's worth to build an camp in each subregion and upgrade it to level 3-4 (so before it starts requiring units and spoils) -  didn't do the maths, but those could boost our hourly VP for the overall rankings some :p

Updated the camp level spreadsheet.

Yes, I did intend this as a discussion thread, as opposed to the HQ which I thought should be kept mainly as a 'decision' thread.

Funnily enough, the main regions of both Sullied and DoW are the Iron Islands and The Reach. DoW are #1 in II with no camps, and Sullied are #2 with two high level ones. In The Reach, Sullied is now #2 with no camps and DoW is gaining on us with 2 high level ones  (they upgraded both to level 12).

Clarification on the 'Helping Hand' prize: This award is given out for the highest amount of camp damage healed to camps in the Reach.

I'm definitely holding stuff back and let reincarnating ppl dump whatever they have. If there seems to be a huge advantage in it, I'll start contributing towards the end of phase, otherwise just stockpile stuff for the next one...

The camp level spreadsheet makes no difference between friends and enemies. I gave access to leaders of WS and WotW (who are now back since their merge with ToG didn't work as expected) so I figured it'd be too confusing.

I'm looking into changing the format and doing a form for maintenance, but since I have no experience with google sheets/forms and scripting, it might be more trouble than it's worth...

Now updatde the camp levels with the top few from Westerlands and the Sullied in the Iron Islands (since they have no camps in the Reach; zombies in garrison so prob fighting with someone over there...), but couldn't get back into the game to properly update the Reach.

Actually, pure maths, calculating with aids/barters only,  seem to be slightly in favour of upgrading, see spreadsheet below. It seems we'd need to average 100-150 successful aids/barters per hour to lose as much from the attack VP as gain from the camp one. Hostilities (which are more than likely to happen) are a whole another matter , though - likely reducing hourly VP due to camp damage, whereas the attack VP should be significantly higher.

VP calculation spreadsheet - very much in progress, only done Aid/Barter/Bribe so far (ETA: now added Fight). It took long to figure out the formula as much as I have, and it's still a bit off, I blame Nod's data for that. It's just rounding issues though, so it shouldn't be too far off. The rest of the tables should be easier now that I know how to get started...

Knights of the Dragon Queen sent a mix of Swindles, Barters, and Steals, no Aid so far, to Mander. What are they up to?  I see we're supposed to be friends, but even so it seems kinda bad manners to do this without prior agreement... or was there one?
